Summary of Clinical Issue:
In nursing practice, accurate identification and application of research is essential to achieving successful outcomes. Being able to articulate the information and successfully summarize relevant peer-reviewed articles in a scholarly fashion helps to support the student’s ability and confidence to further develop and synthesize the progressively more complex assignments that constitute the components of the course change proposal capstone project. For this assignment, the student will provide a synopsis of eight peer-reviewed articles from nursing journals using an evaluation table that determines the level and strength of evidence for each of the eight articles. The articles should be current within the last 5 years and closely relate to the PICOT statement developed earlier in this course. The articles may include quantitative research, descriptive analyses, longitudinal studies, or meta-analysis articles. A systematic review may be used to provide background information for the purpose or problem identified in the proposed capstone project. Use the “Literature Evaluation Table” resource to complete this assignment. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. Please include a separate page with the web links to most of the references. |
The issue of parent hesitancy against pediatric immunization has once again risen due to rumors about the negative effects of vaccines in social media and other media facets. Accordingly, as the number of new diseases has consistently increased, it could be seen that children these days are more at risks of severe repercussions of these diseases especially in case of children who were not vaccinated. Vaccines can prevent infectious diseases that once killed or harmed many infants, children, and adults. Without vaccines, your child is at risk for getting seriously ill and suffering pain, disability, and even death from diseases like measles and whooping cough. For example, the United States had more than 1,200 cases of measles in 2019. This was the greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since 1992 and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000 (CDC, 2019).
It is always better to prevent a disease than to treat it after it occurs. Parents need to be taught that vaccination is a highly effective, safe and easy way to help keep their family healthy. On time vaccination throughout childhood is essential because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Reassure parents that vaccines are tested to ensure that they are safe and effective for children to receive at the recommended ages (CDC, 2019).
PICOT Question: Will short PowerPoint presentations and brochures given to parents prior to pediatric immunization or during physical or urgent doctors appointments reduce the number of those who opt not to vaccinate their children after a period of six months?
