Directions
The purpose of a literacy narrative is to understand how past literacy experiences have shaped your current literacies. Your task is to tell the story of your literacy. You can choose to write about either:
You can talk about positive impacts and experiences, negative impacts and experiences, or both.Your narrative should include an analysis of the significance of what you’re describing and how your experience(s) have shaped you as a reader, writer, or composer.

Genre
A literacy narrative is a common genre, especially for creative writers. Literacy narratives are a storytelling genre where writers use descriptive language and narrative to discuss a significant event or series of events that shaped their literacies. There is no one tone and style for a literacy narrative: they can be serious, funny, informal, formal, poetic, concise, angry, celebratory, etc.
Audience and Circulation
The primary audience for your literacy narrative is you. By reflecting on your literacy history, you’ll learn more about your present literacy and be a more reflective reader and writer. The secondary audience is me as your teacher. By learning more about your history as a reader and writer, I’ll be better able to respond to your current writing.
Format
Your literacy narrative should be a single, coherent written piece of 1000-2000 words. Please use MLA formatting (12-pt. Times New Roman font, double-spaced with 1-inch margins). You can find more information on how to format in MLA online.
Important Dates
*Upload your first draft to Canvas by Wednesday, 12/22 5 PM.At the top of your paper, you should also include a 1-paragraph cover memo, addressed to your peers, articulating any questions, concerns, or comments you have about the state of your draft. Complete the online workshop with your online activity group by Thursday, 12/23 5 PM.
*Upload your revised draft to Canvas with your Final Portfolio by Thursday, 12/19 11:59 PM. You do not need to include a cover memo with your final draft.
