Activist Webcomic Assignment Two Choose one social movement you want to focus on for this project: Anti-racism, Indigenous land rights, Black Lives Matter, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+, Housing Rights, Food activism, Bullying, Anti-capitalism, Anti-consumerism, Climate change, Anti-body shame, Mental health….etc etc. Since there’s a page limitation, you can be specific within your topic (Housing problem in Toronto, body-image issue among men, etc). Writing component: Short essay Using 1500-1650 words, please introduce your chosen social movement and discuss: How the specific medium (webcomics) affects the way it reaches the audience and communicates the core message, and The responsibilities that artists have in creating activist art in the digital age. To support your argument, please find and show an example of activist art that deals with/talks about/refers to the same social movement that you have chosen to discuss. It can be a webcomic or another medium. For the context of the course, please choose the artist from either the US or Canada. References: Please provide seven references. You must use at least 3 sources in either essay or webcomic. If you end up using all seven in both, that’s ok! (But it is not ok to have zero references in the essay or comics). You may use any resources except personal blogs. Please use an author-date citation in your essay. Please provide the citation at the end. For your webcomic, please use endnotes and citations (information will be provided). You are going to include your endnotes and citation on one of the panels at the end.
